Illusion of Time/Gaja

 

Illusion of Time, or in some countries known as Illusion of Gaja is one of my all time favourite games.
The game starts in a nice small city called Southcape. You play as the boy Will, or in some countries Tim if I remember right. Starting in the classroom will tells that he and his father went on a journey to the tower of Babel and only he came back alive. Then you can already start exploring. The controls are quite simple, you dont need many buttons, just one to talk and one for the menu ( and L/R for some skills later). Anyway, after some talking and a tutorial-like meeting with Wills friends, the story begins, you get invited to the Kings Castle and start with your first dungeon. Now you'll see your weapon,  a flute. That's kinda unique for a game, using a flute as a stabing and slashing weapon, but well, later on in this dungeon it gets usefull, cause music is important in this game, but i wont spoil too much =P. One last thing to mention is that Will can transform into an adult Knight, which has a Sword and a longer attack range + a bit more attack power. Later in the game you even get another transformation.

Story/Plot:

The story is cool, its unique, lets you see many places of the world and is very deep. In young age you dont understand all messages that are brought too you. On the other side for older players, some of the conversations may sound too childish and pink, but thats the time^^.

Graphics:

Can't be done better on the SNES in my oppinion, only game that tops it is Terranigma and maybe the Mana Series ( round based rpgs dont count, its easier to make good graphics on a less active userform).

Sound:

The soundtrack and the soundeffects of this game are very good. Even after years of not playing it, you remember the tunes Will plays on his flute. In the dungeons the music is more action like, in citys it makes you forget that you have to fight, well balanced.
